The dead man who was found Friday in a business building on Gerrit Kiststraat in Zaandam, is a 44-year-old man from Amstelveen. A fire broke out in the building on Thursday night and a drug lab was discovered. Research has shown that it was a laboratory where amphetamines were made.
Whether the Amstelvener died in the fire or died earlier is still under investigation. Two people were checked by an ambulance because they were present in the building, but they did not have to be taken to hospital. The police have questioned these men, but so far no one has been arrested.
The laboratory has since been vacated and the building has been closed for six months by order of the mayor. It is not clear how the fire started.
