The Philadelphia Phillies have won the first game of the World Series in Major League Baseball (MLB) and have a 1-0 lead in the series best-of-seven series.
The visitors were 5-0 down at the Houston Astros but turned the game to a 6-5 win thanks to a comeback and home run by catcher JT Realmuto in the tenth inning. The Phillies became the first team in 20 years to close a five-run deficit and win a World Series game. It was the Astros’ first loss in the playoffs. The second duel takes place again in Texas, game three then takes place in Pennsylvania. Whoever gets four wins first secures the championship title.
Realmuto is the first catcher since 1975 to hit a home run in an extra inning. Carlton Fisk last did it in the 12th inning of game six of the 1975 World Series against Cincinnati. A regular MLB game is nine innings.
