The point guard promoted the short called “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America” on his social networks.
The New York franchise strongly condemned the promotion of any form of hate speech
The Brooklyn Nets harshly criticized their player this Friday Kyrie Irving for having promoted a film with anti-Semitic content on social networks. “I am disappointed to see that Kyrie seems to support a movie based on a book full of antisemitic misinformation”Nets owner Joe Tsai wrote on Twitter.
“I want to sit down with him and make sure he understands that this is painful for all of us and, as a man of faith, that it is wrong to promote hate based on race, ethnicity or religion,” he added. In another statement, the New York franchise “flatly condemned” the promotion of “any form of hate speech”.
Irving, who in the past has had other controversies such as his refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, posted Thursday on his Twitter account, with 4.5 million followers, an Amazon link to the movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America” (2018).
This film is based on a book of the same title published in 2015 which, according to Rolling Stone magazine, includes a multitude of anti-Semitic statements such as “many famous Jews” have “admitted” that they pray to “Satan or Lucifer”.
This new controversy over Irving comes just days after Kanye West also came under fire for anti-Semitic claims and racist taunts which led to brands like Adidas and Balenciaga breaking their contracts with the rapper.
