“It was a hobby, but now I’m sure I want to do more with it,” says Lara van Reenen from Bovensmilde resolutely. Singing and making music has grown for her in recent years from a modest hobby to a complete conviction. Last year, 19-year-old Lara Millaa – as her stage name is – released her first song. Then the ball started rolling.

As a young girl she already made music, but she did not dare to sing well in front of others. But that changed. “I’ve been with Neo Music for a few years now,” she says. And that has had a positive effect on not only her singing skills, but also her stage fright. As a birthday present she was allowed to have a song recorded in the studio with John and Nienke (Neo Music) in Bovensmilde. It clicked from both sides and that’s why it didn’t stop with that one shot. “Then we looked at some covers that we could record together.”

One of those covers was the song jealous from Labrinth. After she sang the song, a few comments turned it around. “It may sound stupid to say, but I got some compliments about my singing. It also makes you more confident. That was the moment I thought: if I want something, then I really have to go for it.” And Lara did.
