Duchess Meghan (41) is said to have caused an uncomfortable situation in the top French restaurant “Le Coucou” in New York. This is now revealed by the former head of the Michelin-star restaurant, Michael Cecchi-Azzolina, in his book “Your Table is Ready: Tales of a New York City Maitre D”. d*)
*Maître d refers to the manager of a restaurant.
Cecchi-Azzolina had them all: the restaurateur worked in the hottest and best restaurants in New York for over 35 years and took care of the physical well-being of high society. Including “Vouge” boss Anna Wintour (72) and supermodel Naomi Campbell (52).
However, he remembered one thing in particular: today’s Duchess Meghan, then “Suits” actress and Prince Harry’s friend Meghan Markle. Meghan is said to have marched into the star restaurant with a companion in 2017 and caused a mega Zoff!
According to the Daily Mail, Michael Cecchi-Azzolina recalls the following: Meghan and her companion showed up 20 minutes before their reservation. Result: The table was not ready yet. When they were then offered a seat at the bar while they waited, Meghan’s companion is said to have snapped at the staff: “Are you aware that my guest is dating Prince Harry and will soon be a Duchess? Don’t you have a private area we can wait in?”
In November 2016, Harry made the relationship with Meghan public, exactly one year later they announced their engagement. Michael Cecchi-Azzolina does not reveal exactly when Meghan caused the “Le Coucou” scandal. Cecchi-Azzolina didn’t care that the unknown lady might soon become a royal.
“My first impulse was to laugh. I didn’t give a fuck about Prince Harry’s date,” said the Maître d. Meghan reportedly said “not a word” during the altercation, saying she seemed “distant”.
The head of the starred restaurant countered: “The most powerful people in the world come here – nobody really cares about you. I still don’t have a private table for you guys.”
Meghan had no choice but to wait 20 minutes at the bar.
