The mail is no longer delivered reliably. A comment from BZ editor Oliver Ohmann.

Another report on the problems at the post office. The leadership speaks of staff shortages. But who hires the staff at the post office? The bosses do.

Swiss Post used to be an institution you could rely on. You could set the alarm clock after the postman. The decline is a symptom of a development that can also be observed elsewhere.

The bank branch network is becoming more and more porous, customers are being pushed to online banking. You have to use a magnifying glass to look for real bakers and shoemakers in Berlin. Trained florists and hairdressers are robbed of their livelihood by cheap homeowners.

These are all cultural achievements that are being lost. The postman, the counter clerk, the master baker and many others – we lose an important part of our culture with them. This is a tragedy.
