Schalke 04 released coach Frank Kramer: performances were “not worthy”

Schalke 04 parted ways with coach Frank Kramer one day after the poor performance and elimination in the DFB Cup at TSG Hoffenheim (1:5). The royal blues officially announced this on Wednesday morning. Since taking office in the summer, the 50-year-old has only won two out of twelve games, one of them in the first round of the cup at Bremer SV.

“After promotion, we all committed to one goal: staying up in the Bundesliga. Right up to the end, we were convinced that we could turn the tide in the current situation. From our point of view, the time has now come when we have to make personnel changes,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “We have to score points in the last five league games before an extraordinarily long World Cup break so that we can then prepare as well as possible for the second half of the season, which will be groundbreaking for our club.”

Schalke 04 separates from Frank Kramer – will Thomas Reis take over?

As a possible successor, the “Kicker” and the “Sport Bild” brought ex-Bochum Thomas Reis into play, who was already a topic at Schalke in the summer. Although S04 cannot pay a fee – Reis is still contractually bound to VfL until the end of the season – Bochum would save around 500,000 euros in salary if the contract was terminated.
