For Pierre Gasly, a new phase of his Formula 1 career begins next season. After many years as part of the Red Bull family, the Frenchman is leaving AlphaTauri and joining Alpine – fulfilling his dream of being a French driver on a French team.
At the same time, Gasly is overcome with melancholy when he thinks that he will only be spending a few more race weekends with AlphaTauri. After all, he has been part of the team since 2017 and colleagues have become friends – including Yuki Tsunoda.
The box has been shared with the Japanese for two years and reveals: “He feels like a little brother. In these two years we have experienced many beautiful moments together.”
“I have seen how he has developed and improved over the past 18 months. It will certainly not be easy,” says the outgoing AlphaTauri driver in an interview with “Formula1.com” about the separation from Tsunoda.
“You know in Formula 1 that you have to be selfish”
Gasly himself had quite a few teammates in just under six years of the premier class. “At the end of the day, in Formula 1 you also know that you have to be selfish in a way and look to your own career and the best for yourself. I will definitely miss Yuki, his unfiltered behavior, day in and day out. “
Because the Japanese doesn’t shy away from outbursts of rage on the radio or singing at karaoke, as he recently proved in a bar in Tokyo together with Gasly.
“But I’m sure we’ll have time off the road too,” Gasly continues, revealing: “I’m trying to get him closer to Milan so we don’t live too far apart. We’ll see how it goes . But he’s definitely a great guy. I’ll miss him.”
