The law that divided José Luis Espert and Javier Milei

The deputy of Liberty advances Jose Luis Espert voted in favor of Reform of the Law of Popular Neighborhoods, sanctioned in 2018. This norm suspends the possibility of evicting those who live there for ten years. And on Twitter the debate broke out: liberal users charged against Espert, stating that this law is “against private property”.

Espert voted against private property? Anti-doping to the bare, urgent. What a mess,” one tweeter wrote. “The thing about Espert voting in favor is a shame, totally indefensible. Avanza Libertad died,” said another.

However, many Espert supporters backed the economist’s vote. “Do you think that working people don’t live in the villas? They want to evict 3 million peopleWhere do you think you are going to live?” said one.

In contrast to Espert, her blockmate Caroline Piparo voted against the Law. “I am not going to endorse usurpations, this project is against millions of workers who do not have credit, facilities or the will to commit crimes to access a home. They won’t find me on that side. I leave populism to the rest.”, the deputy of Avanza Libertad expressed on Twitter, who also appears increasingly further away from Espert and closer to Javier Miles.

For his part, the deputy for Freedom Advances, Javier Milei, tweeted against the Law. “Do you realize that when It’s about violating private property. Those of Together for the Kargo are not different from those of the Jet Front? They scare you with the KuKo and they do the same but only with good manners”.

Y many users shot the libertarian because he did not appear in Congress to discuss it. “The vote was already closed before entering the venue… Precisely for that reason I got up and I left because I’m not here to waste time listening to deplorable speeches when everything was already cooked … ”, Milei replied to the criticism.

The initiative was approved by 227 votes that were contributed by the Front of All, Together for Change, the Federal interblock, United Provinces and the left. Piparus’ vote was one of only two votes against, along with that of Francisco Sanchez (PRO). Three abstentions corresponded to the macristas Gustavo Hein, Marilu Quirozy Carlos Zapata (Now Homeland-Together for Change).

The reform of the law, in addition to suspend the possibility of eviction for ten yearsproposes, among other things, to expand the scope of the law passed in 2018, establishing the public utility of 1,176 new neighborhoods, strengthening access to public services, and updating the National Registry of Popular Neighborhoods.
