Virgil van Dijk with Liverpool down at leader Arsenal, already fourteen points behind | Foreign football

with videoArsenal have regained the top spot in the Premier League from Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s team won 3-2 against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in London, which is already fourteen points behind after nine rounds.

Liverpool have only collected ten points so far: two wins, four draws and two defeats. The away game at Chelsea was canceled last month after the death of Queen Elizabeth, so Liverpool has played one game less than many clubs for the time being. However, with fourteen points behind, it can already be stated on October 9 that Liverpool can forget a role in the title fight. Manchester City, who already beat Southampton 4-0 yesterday, are one point below the surprising leader Arsenal. Last season, Arsenal finished fifth, after the London club had twice finished eighth in the Premier League.

Arsenal took the lead after 58 seconds at the Emirates Stadium, where the atmosphere has been excellent this season as the north-east London club finally seems to be able to compete for the title in the Premier League again. Gabriel Martinelli scored on a pass from Martin Ødegaard, the 23-year-old Norwegian (ex-Heerenveen and Vitesse) who is currently Arsenal captain.

Via Darwin Núñez, who completed a low cross by Luis Díaz well, it became 1-1 in the 34th minute. It was only his second league goal for Liverpool for the Uruguay striker, who came over from Benfica for 75 million.

Shortly before half time, however, Arsenal took the lead again with a close penalty from Bukayo Saka. Roberto Firmino scored Liverpool’s second equalizer in the 53rd minute, but it was Saka who eventually became the match winner in London. With his second penalty of the evening, he made the winning 3-2 fifteen minutes before the end.
