As the record progresses, the arrangements become more opulent: harmony choirs, pedal steel, strings. She doesn’t quite reach the highs or lows of her triumphant mourning album “Old Flowers”, her songwriting was once more pointed. But that voice! That bell-bright, longing, wonderfully close voice! Andrews is a country singer, a soul singer, a gospel singer. Every note she sings is magic.
