Änis Ben-Hatira returns to his hometown! The 33-year-old surprisingly signed until the end of the season with regional league club Berliner AK.
“In past transfer periods, Änis was always an issue at the Poststadion. Now we were able to convince him of our concept in intensive discussions. He will strengthen us qualitatively with his national and international experience until the end of the season,” BAK President Ebubekir Han is quoted as saying in a statement.
Ben-Hatira said: “I’ve had a few offers from higher leagues. I made a conscious decision to join the Berlin AK because I want to make history here in the Poststadion.”
The BAK is in second place behind the BFC Dynamo in the Regionalliga Nordost in the promotion race.
Ben-Hatira, a native of Berlin and ex-Tunisia international (12 caps), most recently played for AE Larisa in Greece.
In total, he played 101 Bundesliga games for Hamburger SV, Hertha BSC, Eintracht Frankfurt and Darmstadt. He also played for MSV Duisburg and in Turkey, Tunisia and Hungary.
