Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow had annexed the four regions in Ukraine after Moscow-organized referendums in those areas. The US and other Western countries called the referenda a sham and pledged never to recognize the annexation.
However, North Korean Foreign Minister Jo Chol Su defended the referenda as perfectly legitimate. “An overwhelming majority of voters supported integration with Russia,” Jo said in a statement, according to state news agency KCNA.
North Korea is an ally of Russia. So it is not surprising that the country is on the Russian side in the war with Ukraine.
