The German women’s table tennis team qualified for the round of 16 at the Team World Championships in China.
Han Ying (KTS Tarnobrzeg), Nina Mittelham and Shan Xiaona (both TTC Berlin Eastside) also won their third preliminary round game against the Czech Republic 3-0 in Chengdu on Monday and are now the group winners in the knockout round that begins on Wednesday.
“We came here with the dream of flying home with a medal,” said Mittelham, who came second at the European Championships. “Now we have completed the first stage and are group winners. Everything else now also depends on the draw.”
After first place in the preliminary round group 5, the team of national coach Tamara Boros cannot meet another group leader in the round of 16.
