Chechen President Calls on Russia to Use “Light Nuclear Weapons”: “Dragmatic Measures Needed” | War Ukraine and Russia

Kadyrov argues, among other things, for “the declaration of martial law (state of war in which the army takes power, ed.) in the border areas and the use of low-power nuclear weapons,” he wrote in a Telegram message, also condemning “nepotism” within the Russian military.

Kadyrov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has previously criticized the Russian military’s losses in and around the eastern Ukraine region of Kharkiv. For example, he previously posted an 11-minute video in which he emphasized that “changes must be made” to turn the tide of the war in Russia’s favor. In the video, he also stated that he would speak with Putin in person to explain “the seriousness of the situation on the ground”.

The Chechen also lashed out at Alexander Lapin, the colonel of the Russian military who fought in the strategic city of Lyman, which has been recaptured by the Ukrainians today. Kadyrov called Lapin “a mediocre colonel” who should be fired. Today, due to a lack of essential military logistics, we have lost several settlements and a large tract of territory.

Since 2007, Kadyrov has headed Chechnya, an autonomous republic of the Russian Federation, located in the Northern Caucasus. The politician is an outspoken supporter of the war in Ukraine, in which Chechen troops form a crucial part of the Russian army.

Putin’s other allies, including former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, have also encouraged Russia to use nuclear weapons.
