Three in a row for Vanthourenhout in Berencross

Toon Vandebosch was the first to enter the field. Vanthourenhout, Iserbyt, Van der Haar, Corné van Kessel, Jens Adams, Emiel Verstrynge and Thibau Nys followed in his footsteps. Iserbyt accelerated in the third round and found an ideal companion in Vanthourenhout. The two teammates started the fourth round with a small lead. Sweeck, Van Kessel, Adams and Ryan Kamp tried to cross over to the front runners. Sweeck succeeded in this before halfway through. After Sweeck crashed on the stairs, Van der Haar took over his place among the leaders. Van Kessel and Kamp followed at 15 seconds.

Vanthourenhout is leaving alone

Just before the start of the penultimate round, Vanthourenhout escaped. He started the final lap with an 18 second lead over Van der Haar and Iserbyt. Sweeck, Van Kessel and Kamp followed at 1:10. Vanthourenhout no longer ran into problems and succeeded himself. Iserbyt was able to release Van der Haar in the full final for second place. Sweeck was fourth, Van Kessel fifth.

For Vanthourenhout it is the second victory of the season. He also won the Polderscross in Kruibeke. There are only two names on the still young honors list of the Berencross. From 2016 to 2018 Mathieu van der Poel won the first three editions.

Brand wins with the ladies

Earlier in the day Lucinda Brand was the strongest among the ladies. The 33-year-old Dutch was in and around Domein Ter Borcht in Meulebeke in West Flanders after a sprint by three faster than Fem van Empel and Denise Betsema. Inge van der Heijden took her fourth place. Marion Nobert Riberolle finished fifth. European champion Brand recorded her first victory of the season in Meulebeke.
