The song will be released as the soundtrack for Noah Baumbach’s new Netflix film “White Noise”: “New Body Rhumba” is LCD Soundsystem’s first song since the 2017 album AMERICAN DREAM, which also only came out after a seven-year hiatus. The seven-minute track is characterized by a shrill background choir.
LCD Soundsystem don’t want an “album panic”
The song was announced back in August of this year, when Variety reported that Netflix had hired the band for White Noise. Earlier in March, James Murphy said that LCD Soundsystem would “only be releasing singles so there is no album panic” for the time being.
During their release hiatus, they played a mini-concert series in San Francisco, Oakland, London, Philadelphia and Boston to celebrate their 20th anniversary. In the last year alone, the band performed 17 times during their residency at Brooklyn Steel in New York. This year they performed “Thrills” and “Yr City’s A Sucker” on Saturday Night Live.
Murphy previously scored two of Baumbach’s films: Greenberg (2010) and While We’re Young (2014). The latest work, White Noise, opened this year’s Venice Film Festival and hits theaters on October 31st. The film will also be available to stream on Netflix.
