Major damage to Nieuwstraat building in Purmerend after explosion last night

Residents on Nieuwstraat in Purmerend were woken up early this morning by an explosion in the street. The loud bang caused fire and damage to a home. A number of residents had to leave their homes temporarily. No one was injured, police confirmed.

The police spokesperson cannot yet confirm to NH Nieuws what caused the loud bang at 03.50 am. Photos show that the property has suffered significant damage; the letterbox, door and facade of the building are broken.

The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire immediately. Despite the fact that the fire service was quick to respond, the front of the building is completely blackened. After the fire was extinguished, the house was ventilated.

Police have launched a forensic investigation and are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Damage again

Last Friday, a jeweler, a block away, became a victim of a thud. Residents then spoke out about the damage of the explosionwhich reached into the children’s rooms.
