There will be a line through the KNVB cup match that OFC would play at home against Sparta Rotterdam next month. The light installation does not meet the requirements of the KNVB, as a result of which the second divisionist from Oostzaan has to move to another field.
The KNVB gives amateur teams the home advantage in the first round of the cup tournament if they draw a professional club as an opponent. That rule no longer applies to OFC, concludes OFC team manager Jaap de Vries.
“It is great for us that we can play against an Eredivisie team. The only problem is that we are not allowed to play at our own complex. The KNVB has indicated that the light installation does not provide sufficient light. We now have to move to another accommodation and that is a shame,” said the disappointed De Vries.
Despite the bad news and the disappointing results in the competition (OFC is last), the Oostzaners are positive about the chances in the cup tournament. “We have lost the home advantage against Sparta. Yet a stunt is not excluded. A few seasons ago the Amsterdam Swift eliminated the men of Vitesse. It is therefore possible. As long as we believe in it, everything is feasible.” Incidentally, Swift played that cup match on its own, outdated synthetic turf field at Olympiaplein in Amsterdam.
Alternatives
OFC is looking at where the match can be played. Options are the Kalverhoek sports park in Wijdwormer, the FC Volendam stadium or the Goed Enough sports park where AFC plays.
