Entities present an administrative dispute against the construction of a part of the Plaza de los Àngels
The Raval Neighborhood Network has filed a contentious-administrative appeal against the modification of the General Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona to expand the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Macba), approved in October 2021, because “it plans to take away from the residents of the Raval 908 square meters” of public space in the Plaza de los Àngels.
The initiative, which has the support of 19 neighborhood entities, criticizes the “unjustified and illegal deprivation of free space in one of the most dense neighborhoods and with the fewest open spaces in the entire city”, and that, according to them, they are delivered to an elitist public-private entity, as explained in a statement.
The neighbors attribute this “unacceptable looting” to the desire to -in his words- compensate Macba for the return of the Chapel of Mercy, which the museum had maintained since 2013 and which the neighbors recovered to house the new CAP Raval Nord, according to them.
