‘Harfst in Drenthe’, where is that song from again?

Do you know that? There’s been a song stuck in your head for days, no, weeks. You can remember a specific sentence, but what was that from again? That’s exactly what Henny Bosscha from Visvliet had. She was smart, she sent her question to Find Out!.

In fact, Henny has been looking for the lyrics and melody of a song she often heard for years. ‘It is the autumn in Drenthe, the landscape mourns’, that is all she remembers from this song from her youth. “My father liked to listen to the RONO, that was the regional broadcaster at that time. And then that verse, or rhyme, would come by around this time of year. So I don’t know anymore how it goes and who it sang or said.”

A short search leads us to the Huus van de Taol. After all, they know everything about Drenthe texts there. Regional language official Amber Tieck knows what to do: “It pours on the song ‘Harfst in Drenthe’, by the group the Thriantas. The computer of the 60s. Op this website sends a fragment from the broadcast. Apparently this question was also asked in 2014 and the music fragment was played in the broadcast on RTV Drenthe. I cannot find a more complete text or fragment. Do you perhaps have this song argens in the archive?”

So it was played a lot on RTV Drenthe, decades ago. Inquiries to the music editors of RTV Drenthe bring us to Carlo Deuten. He is music editor at Radio Drenthe. “It is indeed about It’s autumn in Drenthe of the Thrianthas. This group from Drenthe was active between 1948 and 1956. We have two CDs of recordings. An officially released compilation album without this song, but there is also a CD with recordings from the archive including it’s autumn.”
