It is regularly suggested that the TV viewer is Meiland-tired, but the ratings don’t hint at that. After a cautious start to the season, Chateau Meiland is now climbing again towards the million.
The TV season has started cautiously for the Meilandjes. The first three episodes of Chateau Meiland scored around 900,000 viewers, while Martien Meiland has named one million viewers as his absolute lower limit to continue. And that limit came within reach again yesterday with the fourth episode.
Girls climbing
With 975 thousand viewers (19 percent market share), Chateau Meiland scored better on SBS 6 than its commercial competitor RTL 4, which attracted 833 thousand viewers (17 percent) with Expedition Robinson. Only NPO 1’s Kassa did better at half past eight; 1.5 million people (30 percent) watched it.
This is especially good news for Maxime Meiland, because she has moved into a very expensive house for her age. “Television is my main income”, she explains in the Weekend Summer Edition.
Concerned about income?
Does Maxime ever worry about paying her mortgage if Chateau Meiland closes? “No, I’m not into it that way. What I’ve always learned from my parents is: when times go down, you never know, you’ll sell it again. And you start again, in a flat on the third floor and then you build it up again.”
So she doesn’t watch the ratings every week with trepidation. “No, I never worry about that. If it is, then it is and then you make the best of it.”
Elizabeth scores
Queen Elizabeth’s funeral was also popular yesterday with an average of 1.5 million viewers (68 percent). Viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp: “Incredibly impressive figures for the eight-hour (!) funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Even more viewers than expected.”
She continues: “Last year her husband Prince Philip’s funeral had 1 million viewers, Prince Claus’s funeral 3.7 million, Princess Juliana’s funeral and Prince Bernhard’s funeral 3.4 million.”
