New York Fashion Week, which ran from Friday September 9th to Wednesday September 14th, returned for the Spring/Summer 2023 season with physical fashion shows and presentations. Designers made important fashion statements with strong color combinations centered on blends of blue, purple and orange.
Blue +
At Prabal Gurung, the focus was on individuality, and several designs featured a state of ‘dishabille’ reminiscent of ’90s nightclub attire. Look 16 featured a sky blue petticoat with a royal blue overskirt. Meanwhile, design duo Proenza Schouler showed off a turquoise fitted lace shirt with a satin collar and cuffs paired with flared royal blue lace pants on model Achenrin Madit.
Michael Kors showed a sensual collection reminiscent of the 70s. Look 50 included a sequined teal wrap skirt below the knee paired with a sky blue plunging V-neck sweater.
Purple +
At Coach, Stuart Vevers showed off a sewn-in mid-length leather coat in two shades of pale purple coordinated with beige. Underneath protruded a black leather skirt with a silver belt. The look was complemented by a lime green vinyl handbag.
Ulla Johnson has always sported a handcrafted look and this season was no exception. The designer paired a purple, red and orange space-dyed sweater over a tiered tie-dye dress. At Naeem Khan, Look 10 was a lilac silk tie blouse over cropped shorts in green with a floral print.
Orange +
Harmonious orange or orange mixed with other colors was the third prominent color trend in New York. For the Carolina Herrera SS23 collection, Wes Gordon showcased a mini slip dress with a square neckline in wide two-tone orange stripes. At Altuzarra, Ashley Radjarame wore a matching orange mini skirt and layered over a lace shirt with a hand-painted abstract design in silver and black.
New York-based Australian Dion Lee took a body-hugging approach to his mostly separates collection. Look 25 by Fleur Breijer featured fitted leather trousers in a mix of orange, beige and black and a black asymmetric off the shoulder top.
