Tourism in Drenthe has generally had a good summer. Hotels and campsites in particular had more overnight stays than in 2019, the last season before corona. The figures for holiday parks and cottage sites are still slightly below those of 2019, as are those for group accommodations.

In total there were more than 1 million tourist overnight stays in our province in July. That brings the total up to and including July to more than 4.1 million. That is 3% higher than in 2019 and 16% higher than last year, reports Marketing Drenthe.

Hotels had a good year. Since February, the number of overnight stays in this sector has been higher than in the previous three years. The figures also show that the campsites had a good preseason, with more overnight stays than before corona. Up to and including July, the number of overnight stays remained higher than in 2019. The campsites scored even better in the intervening corona years.

The group accommodations have had tough corona years, due to the restrictive measures that applied at the time. This year, this branch of tourism almost completely recovered. Since March, the number of overnight stays has roughly kept pace with the number of 2019. All accommodations scored less in June.

Up to and including July, the rental of houses lagged behind the last year before corona for almost the entire season. 2020 was a bad year in this sector, recovery started last year.
