Kanye West’s DONDA 2 is set to be a “special occasion” album

Kanye West wants his upcoming long-player DONDA 2 to be played on meaningful occasions – from births to weddings to funerals.

“So the guideline for the album was: ‘If [ein Song] not at a funeral, a birth, a graduation [oder] it can’t be played at a wedding, it won’t make it onto our record,'” reports Digital Nas interviewed by Rolling Stone. Digital Nas is one of five producers of the new long player and is the mastermind behind the songs “Junya” and “Remote Control”.

“We have a lot of [vorangehenden Album] learned,” adds the producer. “We now know what works. […] So we expanded on that.” The new songs should be “simplified” and “sound more like a monk”.

In the studio, Digital Nas also got insights into the working process of other producers. He was particularly taken with the songs by Future and Travis Scott.

DONDA 2 is scheduled for release on February 22, 2022. However, West is notorious for delaying releases and endlessly tinkering with his music, sometimes even after it’s released.

Meanwhile, the rapper’s three-part documentary, Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, is due out on Netflix on February 16, 2022. Additionally, West released the song “Eazy” in January 2022. In it, he rants about Pete Davidson, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s new partner.

Kanye West’s current album DONDA will be released in August 2021.
