More reinforcements after Marcelo
Olympiakos Piraeus continues to rely on prominent names when signing newcomers. After the Greek champions signed Marcelo (34), who was previously without a club, earlier this month and former Munich player James Rodríguez (31) is also expected to join, another transfer is about to be completed. According to information from Transfermarkt, Cédric Bakambu travels to Greece on Thursday to complete the medical check in Piraeus and then to sign with his new employer. Also the French newspaper “La Provence” reported about it.

The 31-year-old striker only switched to Olympique Marseille in the winter after four years in China, but was unable to assert himself there in the long term. In the second half of the season, Bakambu only started four games, this season he made three brief appearances, but was not called into the squad twice recently. The right foot was also missing in the 25-man squad that OM had to nominate for the Champions League.
According to TM information, the contract in Marseille, which was valid until 2024, was terminated, so Olympique waived a transfer fee to save Bakambu’s salary. Unlike other clubs in Europe, Piraeus are allowed to sign the 40-cap DR Congo international because the transfer window in the Greek Super League is open until Thursday. In the evening Olympiakos meets SC Freiburg in the Europa League, the presentation of the attacker should take place on Friday morning at the latest.
