BVB youngsters give away victory

Borussia Dortmund’s U19s missed a surprise in the Youth League. At Manchester City, BVB lost 2:3. In the final phase, everything pointed to a success for the black and yellow.

The youngsters from Manchester City got off to a better start and actually had the game under control from the start, but BVB had the first really big chance: After a long through ball from Filippo Mane, Samuel Bamba dived free in front of City keeper Mikki van’s goal Sas up, but the nerves played a trick on the BVB attacker.

The good opportunity spurred on the young Borussia, who appeared again dangerously in front of the home side’s box after a good 20 minutes in the person of Julian Rijkhoff and Prince Aning.

However, it was the home side who made it onto the scoreboard first: Favored by a positional error by Lion Semic, Carlos Borges broke through to the baseline after 31 minutes, kept the overview and served Nico O’Reilly in the middle in an exemplary manner.

In the second 45 minutes, the start again belonged to the City talents: Borges lobbed the leather in the 50th minute over Dortmund goalkeeper Marian Kirsch – and over the crossbar.

BVB is losing their wages

As a result, the BVB youngsters shifted up two gears, took over the game and were rewarded by Vasco Walz (71st minute), who scored the equalizer from a good 20 meters – a goal that gave further momentum.

Top goalgetter Paris Brunner, who scored an unbelievable 14 goals in four games for Dortmund’s B youth in 2022/23, shone this time as a preparer and cleverly put through to Rijkhoff after 80 minutes. A foul stopped the Dutchman, but he turned the penalty kick into a bombproof lead.

This lasted until the 90th minute, when BVB lost the first points of the Youth League season. After a completely unnecessary foul by Aning, Oscar Bobb equalized with a penalty, shortly afterwards Joel Ndala sealed the bankruptcy of Borussia, who are third in the table after two games with zero points.
