Queen Elizabeth II experienced a lot in her life and met a lot of people. Of course, this also included the most prominent Brits – such as Paul McCartney. He had once wanted to give a private concert for Her Majesty’s birthday. But that took place without the jubilarian, so to speak, because the Queen had something else to do: watch “Twin Peaks”!
This amazing story was told by Angelo Badalamenti, the genius David Lynch composer and arranger of the series’ famous soundtrack, in a 2011 interview with NME.
Badalamenti: “When Twin Peaks was just taking off, I flew to London on Concorde to work with Paul McCartney at Abbey Road Studios. Just before we met, he was asked to play for the Queen at her birthday party. ‘I am honored to be here tonight, Your Majesty, and I will play some music for you,’ he told her. But the Queen replied: ‘I’m sorry, I can. unfortunately not stay. It’s five to eight and I have to go and see Twin Peaks!’”
“Twin Peaks” triggered a worldwide boom when it was first broadcast in the early 1990s. Millions of people wanted to know who killed Laura Palmer. The Queen was apparently one of the fans who are rooting for it with passion – it’s almost unbelievable.
McCartney met the Queen, who died last week aged 96, on several occasions and was knighted by her in 1997 for his services to music.
