“Europe wants consumers to share in the profits of energy companies”: high expectations for von der Leyen’s annual speech

According to EU sources, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will announce far-reaching measures to deal with the rampant energy crisis tomorrow, at her annual State of the Union address. For example, the Commission would set a price ceiling of EUR 180 per megawatt hour for companies that generate electricity with renewable energy. In addition, large energy companies that generate electricity with gas would have to pay a solidarity contribution of 33 percent from December. That money should compensate the consumer for the high energy bills.
