Allegations circulated for the first time in May that Ecuador’s national soccer player Byron David Castillo Segura was actually called Byron Javier Castillo Segura, was born in Colombia and was a good two and a half years older than assumed. The Chilean federation demanded that Ecuador be excluded from the finals because Castillo, who had played in the World Cup qualifier, was not eligible to play, and that they should move up themselves. FIFA dismissed the protest in June, but new evidence could turn the tide.
