Amsterdam Pirates finds the right replacement Ronald Jaarsma in coach Mervin Gario

Mervin Gario is the new coach of Amsterdam Pirates starting the new baseball season. The 36-year old Aruban has been in charge of Hoofddorp Pioniers for the past five years.

Gario signs a two-year contract with an option for a longer stay. De Nieuw-Venneper himself played in the Dutch big league for 10 years as an infield player and was the manager in Hoofddorp for the last five years. The board of the Amsterdam baseball-squad is therefore very happy with its new coach. “Gario has delivered a top performance there. Pioniers made it difficult for the traditional top teams every year. They competed until the last year for a place in the play-offs and that with very few resources.”

Missed out on Holland Series

Pirates started looking for a new coach, after Ronald Jaarsma indicated that he was leaving. According to the club, Jaarsma could no longer combine his work with being a trainer.

Jaarsma was the coach of the Amsterdam baseball-squad for only one year. Under his leadership, Pirates lost in the play-off series against Bussum-based HCAW, missing out on the Holland Series.
