Every second child under the age of three goes to a day-care center or is cared for by a childminder.
In Berlin it is almost 47 percent, in Brandenburg around 57 percent, as the statistical office of both countries announced on Wednesday for the publicly funded offers.
On March 1, there were a total of 87,400 under-threes in both countries, around 15,000 more than ten years ago.
Across all age groups, 176,000 children are in care in Berlin without after-school care; in Brandenburg, there were 194,500 girls and boys including after-school care.
While the number of childminders is declining, they are increasing in the day-care centers.
