Armie Hammer: Abuse as a family tradition

When the applauded actor of the film “Call me by your name”, Armie Hammer, was accused on social networks of abuse, violence and even an attempt at anthropophagy or cannibalism, in early 2021, many fans doubted the veracity of the allegations. However, the contracts that he had pending began to fall and the last blockbuster in which he participated, “Death on the Nile”it was a failure.

In a typical strategy of these cancellation times, Hammer secluded himself in a clinic where, supposedly, he tried to rein in his baser instincts, a fact with which he admitted. apparently his guilt and his intention to make amends.

But the DiscoveryPlus/HBOMax platform has just released the docuseries in three chapters “House of Hammer” (directed by Elli Hakami and Julian P. Hobbs), in which he brings the actor back to the forefront, narrating the story of his family. Armie is a descendant of the oil tycoon, Armand Hammerwho was one of the richest men in the world.

The miniseries, based in part on the book “Surviving my Birthright. An Authorized Version” (“Surviving my inheritance. An authorized version”) of Casey Hammer, Armie’s aunt; she uncovers for the general public the family’s past of excesses and a shared penchant for manipulation, violence and abuse.

In the series, the testimony of two women affected by their relationship with the actor also appears, Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison who allude, without giving too many details, to extreme practices of “bondage”, rape and harassment.

In the story of the family saga, the patriarch, considered a true philanthropist; he appears as a man who made his fortune by resorting to bribery and blackmail. There is even mention of a major fire that suffered a maritime platform of his company, Occidental Petroleum, due to the few security measures that had been implemented on it.

The rest of the Hammers are not spared from ridicule. Armie’s grandfather is pointed out in the series as an addict who abused his own daughter and Michael, the actor’s father, as a liar who stole his sister’s inheritance.

As is clarified in each chapter, the actor never agreed to be interviewed to give his point of view in the production. Neither do other members of the family. So far, as also indicated, there are no formal charges filed against Armie.
