THW Kiel stays ahead – SG Flensburg-Handewitt and Füchse Berlin win

Record champion THW Kiel has refined its good start in the handball Bundesliga.

Three days after the show of force at the start against TVB Stuttgart (36:23), coach Filip Jicha’s team won 32:22 (14:13) at DHfK Leipzig on Wednesday. Kiel’s northern rival SG Flensburg-Handewitt also celebrated their second win of the season at 36:23 (20:12) against GWD Minden.

With six goals, Niclas Ekberg was the best scorer for Kiel, who pulled away after initial problems with the Saxons in the second half. With 4:0 points and the best goal difference in the league, the zebras remain the front runners. Even before the season, THW had won the Supercup against champions SC Magdeburg.

In Flensburg, Emil Jakobsen dominated for the hosts, the Dane scored nine goals for coach Maik Machulla’s team. The SG started the new season with a resounding victory at HSV Hamburg. National player Johannes Golla scored the decisive goal three seconds before the end.

The Füchse Berlin also kept their clean slate. The capital city won at HSG Wetzlar after a strong performance with 37:25 (18:11). Tim Freihöfer impressed with eight goals for the foxes, in which managing director Bob Hanning replaced the sick head coach Jaron Siewert on the sidelines, as in the opening win against FA Göppingen.

Göppingen meanwhile beat TBV Lemgo Lippe with 34:31 (14:12). The two clubs will meet again at the end of the month, then the German duel in the second qualifying round of the European League will take place. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf secured their second win of the season with a 23:22 (9:10) win over Bergischer HC.
