France midfielder Paul Pogba is threatened with the end of the World Cup in Qatar: The 29-year-old professional from Juventus Turin has to undergo knee surgery. “Paul Pogba trained for the second time in the morning but then stopped and it was decided he needed surgery. I have to calculate that we’ll have him back in January, we have to be realistic,” said Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri on Monday before departure for the Champions League game this Tuesday (9 p.m.) at Paris Saint-Germain.
Pogba, who moved back to Juve from Manchester United on a free transfer before the current season, suffered a meniscus injury during a trip to the USA in pre-season and has therefore not yet played a competitive game for his new, old club. Originally he wanted to overcome the injury with conservative therapy. After the operation, it is assumed that Pogba will not be able to train for up to six weeks – it is unclear whether there will be enough time for France coach Didier Deschamps.
The World Cup in Qatar will take place from November 20th to December 18th. Whether he can play the tournament or not is “not my problem,” said a cynical Allegri. The world champion signed with the “Old Lady” from 2018 to 2026.
