RKC won 5-2 against Excelsior on Sunday. At home, Joseph Oosting’s team played a fantastic second half. It easily turned a 1-2 halftime score around and booked the first win of the season. The Waalwijkers rise to eighth place in the ranking.
It was certainly fun on Sunday afternoon in Waalwijk. Both teams wanted to make it a good game. Was it good? No, certainly not, but the neutral spectator and especially the RKC supporters will have enjoyed it.
RKC went on the hunt for the first win of the season. That had to be caught against Excelsior, who already surprisingly had six points.
Redundant
The Waalwijkers were the better team when it came to football. It was dominant and was able to take the lead after six minutes via Michiel Kramer. He was unable to capitalize on an exquisite opportunity. Shortly afterwards, on the other side, it was hit via Julian Baas, 0-1.
RKC put in extra effort and deservedly tied the score. From a corner it was Shawn Adewoye who headed home. Where everyone waited for the 2-1, the goal fell on the other side. From a corner it was Redouan El Yaakoubi with the 1-2.
The delay at half time was unnecessary. You could see from everything that RKC did not have to be afraid of this Excelsior. But it fell behind due to two weak defenses.

After rest it became fun. It led to two brilliant goals for RKC. Clement’s equalizer came after a perfect attack. Vurnon Anita put away right back Julian Lelieveld. He gave a good pass to Pelle Clement, who in turn shot into the roof of the goal.
Not much later, the party in Waalwijk became even bigger. Thierry Lutonda shot the ball behind the hopeless Excelsior goalie with a volley. The 3-2 lead for RKC was more than deserved at that time.
For the home team, the lead was not a reason to back up, but to push on. The 4-2 ten minutes before time was the final decision. Notabene the smallest man on the field, Anita, headed home from another corner. In stoppage time it even became 5-2 via Michiel Kramer.
Great start to the season
With the win, RKC has a good start to the season. It is after five games on six points and a provisional eighth place. Given the game, it doesn’t look like this team will get into trouble this season. There is a strong selection that is well balanced.
In the back it might be a little better, but given the weakness of the current Eredivisie, the relegation specter in Waalwijk is not expected.
