After a draw, VfB Stuttgart and Schalke 04 both remain without a win in the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga.

Due to the 1:1 (1:1) on the 5th match day, both teams missed a clear step forward. Stuttgart remains without a win in the lower half of the table with four points, just like Schalke with three points. Schalke at least showed a more stable performance after the 1: 6 against Union Berlin.

Chris Führich gave Stuttgart the lead (18th), Simon Terodde equalized (27th). Josha Vagnoman had to leave the field with a yellow-red card (67th).

Terodde finds the answer to Stuttgart’s leadership

After a weak initial phase, Stuttgart took the lead through Chris Führich: Schalke’s new signing Sepp van Berg involuntarily put down a high ball for Stuttgart’s Silas, whose pass Führich used (18th).

Schalke found a quick answer: Dominick Drexler lobbed the ball into Terodde’s path, which scored from a tight angle (21′). Schalke was now better in the game, but initially missed their chances.

Zalazar misses the great chance of Schalke’s victory

Schalke’s chances increased after the break when Stuttgart’s Josha Vagnoman saw a yellow-red card for a tactical foul on Tobias Mohr (67′). The following free-kick from the left almost meant the lead, but Schalke didn’t take advantage of Stuttgart’s disorder.

VfB sports director Sven Mislintat was upset about Vagnoman’s dismissal: “Clearly eleven against eleven must be played here, the polter was allowed to continue playing. Stop that shit,” he said on Sky. Referees are supposed to “manage games, not decide,” Mislintat said. Florian Badstübner was the referee of the game.

The big chance to decide the game for Schalke was missed by Rodrigo Zalazar. Marius Bülter had crossed and defended against Stuttgart’s goalkeeper Florian Müller in front of Zalazar’s feet – but he shot Stuttgart’s Pascal Stenzel (89th). A little later, Zalazar narrowly missed after another cross from Bülter (90+2).
