Klaiber came to Ajax for five million euros, now he returns to FC Utrecht for free

Sean Klaiber closes the door at Ajax behind him after two years. The right wing defender came to Ajax for five million euros in 2020. Despite a contract until 2023 in Amsterdam, he returns to FC Utrecht transfer-free.

He has signed a contract in the Domstad until the summer of 2025. Klaiber never really managed to break through in Amsterdam. He lost the competition with Noussair Mazraoui and Devyne Rensch. He also suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury last year.

In total, the Surinamese international made 22 official appearances for the team from Amsterdam, including three matches in the Champions League.

Klaiber still played in the preparation with Ajax this summer. In the friendly match against Paderborn 07 he even wore the captain’s armband. In the end he could not convince Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder.
