Crevits: “300,000 students receive the school allowance today”
In total, about 300,000 children will receive the school allowance on Monday. Families will also receive a notification of this in ‘My Citizen Profile’, the website that has also been available as an app since July.
“The school allowance helps children to participate in education by financially supporting their families. Every year, all children who go to a Dutch-language nursery, primary or secondary school in Flanders or Brussels are examined whether they are entitled to school allowance. The fact that we can now pay the school allowance for 300,000 students before the start of the school year is a major asset, especially in times when inflation and energy costs are soaring.” according to Flemish Minister of Welfare, Public Health and Family Hilde Crevits
First payout on August 29
For each child for which we have all the details (eg registration, family income), the school allowance will be paid on 29 August if it is entitled to it. That is a week earlier than last year. A subsequent payout will take place at the end of September, October and November. Does a child already receive a Growth Package? Then it will automatically receive the school allowance if it is entitled to it.
