At the financially troubled FC Barcelona, all newcomers are now eligible to play in the Primera División. Defender Jules Koundé was the last to be given permission to play.
The French defender, who had switched from FC Sevilla, had missed the Catalans’ first two league games. Against Real Valladolid, the 23-year-old is allowed to make his competitive debut for the team with national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and ex-Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski at Camp Nou, as reported by specialist media, citing the Spanish professional league.
In order to meet the financial requirements of LaLiga, FC Barcelona, which owes 1.35 billion euros, had to sell club assets worth more than 600 million euros. Among other things, 25 percent of the TV rights were given up for the next 25 years. Despite this, the professional league had been a long time coming before Koundé was allowed to play.
With four points from two meetings, Barça were sixth in the table on Saturday afternoon. The club meets Bayern Munich with Lewandowski in the group stage of the Champions League. The 34-year-old Pole left the German record champions this summer after a long transfer theater.
