Research by the French newspaper Le Monde and activist group Global Witness showed that the jet fuel was produced from gas condensate supplied by Terneftegaz. The French have a 49 percent interest in it.
TotalEnergies expects to complete the sale of the stake in September this year. This is still subject to the usual conditions. In a statement, TotalEnergies said the divestment was planned before the controversy came to light. A request for approval of the deal has already been sent to the Russian authorities on August 8.
TotalEnergies confirmed earlier on Friday that it produces gas condensate for jet fuel in Russia together with Novatek. But this fuel would be purely for export. Global Witness believes that TotalEnergies contradicts itself in its statements. The organization is demanding an investigation.
