Tennis player Novak Djokovic is not going to the American tournament, the US Open, because he “cannot travel to New York”. He writes that himself on Thursday on Twitter. His vaccination status is probably the reason that he is not allowed to enter the United States. The tennis player has not been vaccinated against the corona virus and the country requires a vaccination certificate from visitors.

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to travel to New York for the US Open,” writes the Serb. He thanks his fans for their support and wishes the participating players every success. “I’m staying in good shape and waiting for a chance to compete again.”

Earlier this year, Djokovic was banned from entering Australia due to his vaccination status. He would participate in the Australian Open, an important tournament in which he could win his 21st grand slam title. His visa was canceled immediately after arriving in the country: he would have been given a medical exemption from vaccination against the coronavirus, but could not substantiate why he was entitled to it.
