After Oleksandr Usyk’s title defense, the boxing world is looking forward to a unification match between the Ukrainian and WBC champion Tyson Fury. However, in order for the self-proclaimed “Gypsy King” to end his early retirement, an insane amount of money has to end up in his pocket.
“It’s all about the money in this fight,” Tyson Fury admits in a radio show on “TalkSport” without beating around the bush – even if he’s already amassed a large fortune and didn’t really need it. “I resigned, I have enough money,” Fury said.
Nevertheless, he wants to break into new financial spheres in a possible unification fight “against this Ukrainian”, according to Fury. And the sum trumpeted by the WBC world champion is actually unparalleled.
“If you want to see the Gypsy King in the ring, you have to pay a huge sum to see the biggest fight in the world,” said Fury, who then became specific: “I want 500 million[poundsdEd)forUsyk!”
Mega fight again in Saudi Arabia?
The 34-year-old drew a parallel with Floyd Mayweather, who once raked in $400 million for his 2015 fight against Manny Pacquiao.
The Usyk camp doesn’t have much time to think, Tyson Fury also added: “You have a week. Today is August 24th.”
Co-promoter Frank Warren had already confirmed to the English media at the beginning of the week that Fury was ready for a fight against Usyk. According to the “Daily Mail”, the place and date of the showdown are already there. Accordingly, both boxers come together on December 17 in Saudi Arabia, where Usyk recently defeated challenger Anthony Joshua on points.
Warren, too, had already emphasized the importance of the financial aspect. The fight must be “worth it for both sides”.
