“We call on program makers to pay more attention because they play an important role. When people see certain behavior on television, they adopt it blindly, because they think that the right example is being set there,” says Rob Stomphorst of the safety club.
„But in popular programs like B&B Full of love and Buy without looking candidates who are filmed during a car ride wear the seat belt completely wrong. An explanation is given that this happens because otherwise the transmitters they use will not work properly. Sheer nonsense of course, because I can name countless other programs where that is no problem at all. This must be addressed,” said the VVN spokesman.

Coincidentally, these cases concern RTL programs. “We are aware of our exemplary role and therefore pay close attention to safe driving. In these cases, we should have paid more attention,” admits a spokesperson, who would like to see that errors like this no longer occur in the future. “That is why we are going to record this more clearly in our production processes.”

It is not the first time that seat belts have caused a stir. In 2021, Sigrid Kaag caused a riot when she was in an official car in a VPRO documentary without a seat belt. D66 tried to get the images adjusted. Because of the commotion that arose, Kaag donned the robes and made a donation of 200 euros to VVN.
