France’s Caroline Garcia became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a WTA 1000 tournament.
The number 35 in the world rankings defeated the two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic 6:2, 6:4 in the final of the WTA Masters in Cincinnati/Ohio.
It was Garcia’s third Masters title after victories in Wuhan and Beijing in 2017.
