It’s over for the football talk show VTBL. Simon Zijlemans’ program imploded even further yesterday: there are only 33 thousand (!) viewers left.

It is one of the biggest flops RTL has had in years: the 2.0 version of the football talk show VTBL. Presenter Simon Zijlemans does not make a dent in a pack of butter. After 126 thousand, 86 thousand and 72 thousand viewers, the fourth episode of his program last night only scored 33 thousand viewers and a 0.7 percent market share on RTL 7.

‘This is really sad’

There is no doubt that VTBL will soon be taken off the pipe, because the costs simply do not outweigh the benefits and it does not appear that this will ever be a success again. RTL 7 called out this week that the program gets time, but this is just outright viewing suicide.

Viewership professor Tina Nijkamp woke up completely shocked. “33,000 viewers for VTBL. It’s really there. Terrible score for RTL 7 and really sad for the team,” she writes in her Insta stories.

Veronica Offside

And what about presenter Wilfred Genee’s direct competitor Veronica Offside? That program started last Monday with 283 thousand viewers (6 percent), but yesterday only 168 thousand (4 percent) people were ready, also not a fat pot. “Veronica Offside has also fallen.”

VTBL and Veronica Offside score 1.0 and 4.9 percent market share respectively in the commercial target group 20 to 54 years. “The future seems clear to VTBL and I think that Veronica Offside will continue to score well, especially on Monday. Mondays always scored better than Fridays at Veronica Inside,” says Tina.

The smartest person

On to the competition: NPO 2’s De Slimste Mens was the big winner in prime time with 1.5 million viewers (32 percent). The top three is completed by RTL 4’s B&B Vol Liefde (814 thousand and 18 percent) and SBS 6’s Today Inside (728 thousand and 17 percent).

The only other prime-time titles in the top fifteen are NPO 3’s European Championships Munich (740 thousand) and NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (616 thousand). NPO 1 disappoints with Silent Witness (469 thousand and 10 percent) and Muziekfeest op het Plein (352 thousand and 8 percent).

Viewing figures

Other programs that did not make the top 15 include Hart van Nederland (512 thousand), Shownieuws (407 thousand), Secret Duets (405 thousand), 112 Today (322 thousand), I Want Your Song (296 thousand) and Shownieuws Zomeredition. (194 thousand).
