We will stay in these old times for a while. Because in Ruinerwold you can view old-timers this weekend, during the Oldtimerdag. There are over a thousand old vehicles in the village, about half of them are old cars, but there are also old tractors, mopeds, caravans, solexes and more to see. The old-timers are not only standing still, there are also a few tours.
Not only Ruinerwold goes back to old times. Anloo also goes back in history. Back to the 17th century. For the Etstoel Anloo, which will be performed on Saturday from 10 a.m. and then replayed every hour. More than four hundred volunteers turn the village into an open-air stage. A different true court hearing is re-enacted every year. Saturday is about a case of two businessmen who have both been accused of libel and insult.
Now that we are in old times, we can also talk about dolmens. Sunday is Hunebed Day. In Borger there are various activities in and around the Hunebedcentrum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. These are free of charge, but a museum entrance ticket is required for the activities in the Oerpark. From 2 pm to 4.30 pm there is a guided bike tour along various dolmens and from 10 am to 3 pm there is a walk on the Hondsrug and along dolmens. Registration for the cycling or walking tour is necessary.
If you like cycling and walking, but have less hunebeds, you might want to go to Eext this weekend. On Saturday, the Eext equestrian club will hold a Ride, Run & Bike. That is a sporting event. A runner or cyclist must then complete a course of five or ten kilometers together with a rider on a horse. Don’t be put off by the term sport. You can do it at your own pace. And otherwise watching and encouraging might be an option?
The word sport alone makes us very hungry. Fortunately, there is plenty of room for that this weekend. In Emmen there is MM Culinair all weekend. This year marks the 10th anniversary of this culinary event. Restaurants from the area then present themselves and prepare a special dish. They have a chance to win the title ‘Best signature dish’. MM Culinair is on Saturday from 3:00 PM to midnight and on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Our tummy is full again, and with a full stomach we have the energy for one last activity. A search rally for metal detection, for example. It starts on Saturday at 10:00 in Hooghalen, where the Trekkerslep was last weekend. 150 participants go around the site with metal detectors to search for hidden treasures.
