The 49-time Ukrainian national player Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta Bergamo is looking for a new sporting challenge and could find it in the French Ligue 1 – reports the Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Accordingly, Olympique Marseille is interested in a transfer of the 29-year-old, whose contract with “La Dea” expires next summer. A journalist’s report Gianluca Di Marzio according to a swap deal, OM right winger Cengiz Ünder could also return to Serie A.
The latter was only firmly committed by the French in July after a previous loan for 8.4 million euros. The Turk had previously been under contract with AS Roma for five years and had also been loaned to Leicester City in the Premier League for a season before Marseille. Malinovskyi moved from Genk to Bergamo in 2019 for €13.6m and has since contributed 55 goals in 101 Serie A games. According to the reports, Marseille and Atalanta are in close contact regarding possible scenarios.
From the French club’s point of view, a swap deal with Ünder could further depress the price of Malinovskyi, whose market value of €28m is currently just below his peak of €30m, in addition to the short contract period with the Italians. OM is down almost 67 million euros this summer. While 73.4 million were invested in new players like Pau López or Mattéo Guendouzi, there are only 6.73 million euros on the credit side through sales (see overview).
According to media reports from France, Marseille is currently rethinking its sales strategy at the behest of club owner Frank McCourt, and the door should also be opened to players who were previously considered untouchable – including Ünder and Arkadiusz Milik, who was only signed from Naples in July (to the news ).
