Organ Concerts Coevorden Foundation throws in the towel

The Coevorden Organ Concerts Foundation has called it quits after almost 50 years. The organization is confronted with, among other things, an aging population among donors, decreased interest and a financially uncertain future. On September 14, the last concert will take place within the walls of the Stadskerk.

The foundation announced the news in their most recent newsletter. “Unfortunately, after much deliberation, we had to decide to discontinue the SOC after this season.” In addition to the reasons mentioned above, the board also has continuity problems. Several members have indicated that they want to stop.

Finally, the rejection of the church also causes unrest. Last spring, the Reformed and Reformed congregations in Coevorden merged into a Protestant church. All services are held in the Singelkerk. The City Church is now for sale. Inquiries with the church council show that there are no new developments to report in this area.

The last concert on 14 September will be given by Toon Hagen, who will perform the work Canto Ostinato by the Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt.
