The German national ski jumping coach for women, Maximilian Mechler, is firmly assuming that a Four Hills Tournament for women will be introduced quickly.
“As far as I know, the four tour locations agree that they want to do a tour for women next winter. In what form exactly, you would have to ask them yourself,” said former athlete Mechler of the “German Press Agency”.
Not only the four locations are involved, but also the two ski associations from Germany and Austria, the world association Fis as well as sponsors and TV partners. The men had the 70th edition of the traditional event this winter. The introduction of the tour for women has been discussed for years.
Mechler and his top athlete Katharina Althaus insist that the format will also be available in the four original locations of Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
“That would definitely be our wish and goal, because a Four Hills Tournament cannot be replaced by another tour. A tour in Slovenia and Austria can be great, but no other format can match the Four Hills Tournament,” said the 38 year old head coach.
Althaus had recently made a similar statement.
